After Shashank Manohar‘s resignation from the coveted post of the President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur has been elected as the new President on Sunday. Manohar, who had taken over the post after Jagmohan Dalmia’s sudden demise, gave it up on May 10 and was elected unopposed as the new International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman. Thakur, who was the BCCI secretary, had filed his nomination for the post on Saturday and has been elected uncontested as the new President of the organisation. All the six members of the East zone nominated Thakur as a potential candidate for the post. Earlier, names like Sharad Pawar and Ajay Shirke were being speculated to be in contention for the post alongside Thakur. However, Shirke had demolished all the speculations saying, “When Jagmohan Dalmiya was in power, it was Thakur who took the important calls. With Manohar’s entry, it had left Thakur playing second fiddle. It would be safe to assume with Manohar’s departure, Thakur would want to wrest back his position of power. Shukla too has been given complete control of the IPL and enjoys a lot confidence among most members,” reported Hindustan Times.
