Anurag Thakur to inaugurate another cricket stadium in Himachal Pradesh

The HPCA's new stadium at Gumma in Shimla district will be inaugurated by its former president Anurag Thakur.

Dharamsala: The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) will throw open on June 1 one more stadium, the fifth in the state, next month, an official said today. The HPCA’s new stadium at Gumma in Shimla district will be inaugurated by its former president Anurag Thakur, who is also former BCCI chief. It’s located 60 kms from the state capital at an altitude of 5,500 feet above sea level. HPCA press secretary Mohit Sood said, “Anurag Thakur will inaugurate the facility in presence of president and members of the Shimla District Cricket Association and other prominent leaders and people of the area.

“Besides Dharamshala, we have stadiums in Amtar in Hamirpur district and at Bilaspur too,” added Sood. The HPCA facility at Gumma will have a pavillion, dressing rooms, practice area, four turf wickets and an outfield where class 1 Bermuda grass has been specially planted to give the players an international playing experience. It has been constructed with an outlay of Rs 3 crore.

The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium of Dharamsala has hosted 12 international matches so far. It includes 3 One-Day Internationals (ODI), 9 Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) and a Test. Those three ODIs were played against England, West Indies and New Zealand and India won two out of it. The only Test was played recently at this venue which India won it against Australia in the 4th Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2016-17
