Powered by opener Anton Devcich’s 46-ball 77 and spinner Rahmat Shah’s 3 for 25, Nangarhar Leopards claimed their second victory of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) in the match 11 of the tournament.
They beat Kabul Zwanan by 15 runs at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah on Friday.
After being out into bat, Devcich and Johnson Charles provided Nangarhar with a good starting combining for 115 runs for the opening wicket in just 11.3 overs. Devcich was picked up Muslim Musa, followed by the wicket of Charles for 43 off 27 balls an over later by Zamir Khan.
Kabul made a solid comeback with three more quick strikes in the form of Imran Janat (4), Ben Cutting (11) and Rahmat Shah (8). Wayne Parnell picked two wickets while Rashid Khan returned 1 for 38 in his four overs.
In reply, Hazratullah Zazai (40) and Luke Ronchi (50) got off to a good start for Kabul, putting on 80 for the opening wicket in 6.4 overs.
But Nangarhar reined in things with a tidy spell of spin bowling by Mujeeb ur Rahman and Rahmat Shah.
After being 91/1, Kabul slumped to 117/5 with Ronchi removing Rahmat. Kabut struggled to pick things up from there and lost more wickets, Musa’s 16 and Parnell’s 11 took Kabul to 167/9, 14 runs shy of the target.
Mitchell McLenaghan picked 2 for 24 while Mujeeb finished with 3 for 29 in his four.
Brief Scores: Nangarhar Leopards 182/5 (Anton Devcich 77*, Johnson Charles 43; Wayne Parnell 2/47) beat Kabul Zwanan 167/9 (Luke Ronchi 50, Hazratullah Zazai 40; Rahmat Shah 3/25) by 15 runs.
