Arbaaz Khan confesses to betting during IPL: Reports

Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan has found himself in another eye of the storm. His named popped up in Mumbai Police’s investigation of Indian Premier League betting scandal involving bookie Sonu Jalal. Jalal mentioned Arbaaz’s name during interrogation. Arbaaz after being summoned by police, confessed to have placed bets during IPL 2018.
According to a report in Times of India, officials of Thane anti-extortion cell sat Arbaaz face-to-face with Jalal, who then recorded his statement/confession. It being allegedly said, that Arbaaz paid Jalal INR 3 crore. Both have been seen at social gatherings as well.
Jalal’s name was also mentioned during IPL 2013 spot-fixing scandal.
Earlier, a police official said: “ Actor Arbaaz Khan placed bets during one of the past IPL seasons through Jalan. In those days, Jalan was working with a big bookie who went by the name Junior Calcutta. Subsequently, too there was a huge transaction between Jalan and Khan. Apparently, Khan was blackmailed into paying crores, the threat being that his gambling habit would be exposed. But all this will be probed once Khan gives his side of the story.”
Speaking over the matter, IPL Commissioner, Rajeev Shukla told ANI, “The matter is with the police, we have nothing to do with it. Both Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and International Cricket Council (ICC) have anti-corruption units, police can coordinate with them.”
