N Srinivasan’s time as BCCI President might be coming to an end and BJP leader Arun Jaitley might be asked to take over the leadership, according to BCCI sources.
With the controversies surrounding the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the BCCI at this point in time, it is believed that the support for Srinivasan has reduced in the last few weeks.
Earlier on Saturday, Srinivasan told media personnel that he will not be forced to resign from his post. But several members of the BCCI now feel that Srinivasan must resign as his post has become untenable, as reported by NDTV.
The rules of the BCCI specify that if the President resigns, the vice-president will take over in the interim as a new head is elected. And the protocol would make Shivlal Yadav head of the BCCI if Srinivasan resigns.
The baying for Srinivasan’s resignation increased after his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan was arrested on Friday by Mumbai police for his alleged role in the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting controversies.
Meiyappan was later sent into police custody by the Mumbai court on Saturday till May 29.
