Royal Challengers Bengaluru won over Punjab Kings by 6 runs and claimed their maiden Indian Premier League title. This victory was a statement of the team towards their fans and supporters for their unwavering hopes and expectations from such a highly-reputed team.

After the victory, RCB’s star batter Virat Kohli showered some special praise to one of his special friend and his former teammate Ab de Villiers, stating how he contributed greatly towards the team when he would come out on the field with them.

Firstly Virat shared how he felt after winning a trophy following constant failure year-after-year. “This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team. It has been 18 long years, I have given this team my youth, my prime and my experience and I have tried to win this every season that I have come and I have given everything I have and to finally have this moment come, it is an unbelievable feeling,” he said after the match.

Virat Kohli then spoke about Ab de Villiers and how he has done so much for the team. He also spoke about how he had told his former teammate about the trophy being as much his own as it was the team’s, and that he wanted the South African to be with the team when they lift their title.

What he (AB de Villiers) has done for this franchise is absolutely tremendous and I told him that before the game as well that this one is as much yours as it is ours and I want you to celebrate with us when we lift that trophy by the end of the night because what he has done for RCB is so very special, he still got maximum number of Man of the Match awards and he is retired for 4 years now, so that tells you the impact he has had on this league, on this team, on me as a person, our friendship and what he means to the people of Bangalore to this team and to this franchise is something that I can’t describe in words, so as I said he deserves to be on that podium with all of us lifting that cup tonight,” Kohli said.
