Former English batsman and Australia A’s current assistant coach Greame Hick said it was a shame that the second day’s play in the tour game between England and Australia A at Hobart was washed out without a ball being bowled.

He also opined that “time in the middle is like gold dust "for any batsman. For a batter, it is always good to get some runs on the board before you go into that first Test so it is a shame to lose a day. We will have to see what tomorrow holds.

"I am sure Kevin Pietersen and the rest of the order would like some time in the middle but we will see what happens."
