A groin injury has not yet cast a doubt on Ashish Nehra’s participation in the IPL, but the seamer who is registered with Pune Warriors in the cash-rich event, is likely to miss Delhi’s Twenty20 matches in Mumbai.
He suffered the injury during Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy semifinal against Mumbai on Saturday.
The seamer could not complete his seventh over after injuring his groin, which forced him to limp off the ground as Mumbai registered a thumping 140-run win at the Feroz Shah Kotla.
“He is likely to take a week to 10 days’ rest and is doubtful for our T20 games in Mumbai,” Delhi coach Sanjeev Sharma told PTI.
“IPL is still almost 25 days away so he is expected to recover before that… he might go for scans,” Sharma added.
Delhi play Railways on March 24 at the Wankhede stadium.
“He injured his groin, behind the thighs.”
Nehra, who did not bat, was measly, conceding just 18 runs off the 41 deliveries he bowled to the Mumbai batsmen.
The experienced seamer missed out Delhi’s thumping win over Railways in the quarterfinal, but returned today to spearhead the attack against Mumbai.
Harbhajan Singh was meanwhile named captain of the North Zone team for the Deodhar Trophy.
Delhi’s Shikhar Dhawan will be the offspinner’s deputy in the zonal tournament.
North Zone will meet the winner of the match between South and Central on March 18 in Dharamsala. (PTI)
