Australia spin bowler Ashton Agar has been sidelined due to a shoulder injury and might well miss some of Australia A’s winter matches and also the start of the Matador One-Day Cup. Agar got injured while training with his Western Australia side and scans further revealed that he had disrupted the area which had been operated on this year itself. The slow left-arm orthodox bowler, will be consulting a specialist soon to ascertain the time frame till when he will be out of action. Australia A’s two four-day First-class matches begin July 30, which will be followed by a quadrangular series that will include South Africa A, India and Australia’s National Performance Squad (NPS). CA’s Bupa Support Staff Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager, Alex Kountouris said in a statement, “Ashton injured his right shoulder during a WACA pre-season training camp and scans have confirmed that he has disrupted some of the structures that were surgically repaired in April 2016,” as quoted by Cricket.com.au. “He is due to see a specialist next week to determine if he will require surgery and when he is likely to return to training and playing. “He will definitely miss the start of the Quadrangular A series, but whether he takes any part in it and whether he will be fit for the Matador BBQ’s One-Day Cup will be determined in due course,” the statement further stated.
Meanwhile, Australia’s A squad will also have to cope up with the absence of Moises Henriques who is in the Australia Test squad for the tour to Sri Lanka. Pat Cummins has taken a cautious approach and is still recovering from his back injury, whereas Travis Head will be playing for Yorkshire in the winters. This means, Agar’s injury could be a blow for the Australia A squad.
