Ashwell Prince appointed assistant coach for Cape Cobras

Ashwell Prince will star his coaching career, as he was roped in as the assistant coach for South Africa‘s one of the most successful cricket franchise Cape Cobras. Prince recently stepped down from the national selection panel, as he gets set to work with Cobras head coach Paul Adams, along with Alan Dawson, who is the new convener of selectors. It was reported on Monday that Prince handed his resignation to the national selection panel, as he wanted to be the batting consultant for South Africa A, during the tour of Australia in August. The Cobras were deprived of a trophy in the previous season of 2015-16, as it was also the first time in eight years that they had gone drought without a trophy. The First-Class tournament saw them finishing fourth, while they were the runners up in the 50-over tournament, as they finished third in the Twenty20 (t20) tournament. Justin Kemp missed most of the tournament owing to an injury, and has also called for his retirement, while Robin Peterson was sidelined as well, as he now would be playing for the Knights, reports espncricinfo.com. With Cobras lacking some experience, they can still rely on Justin Ontong, Dane Vilas and Rory Kleinveldt, while Prince’s forst major task would be to recreate the team culture. “The senior veterans in the Cape Cobras team have been around the block and they know what is required to achieve success. The most important characteristic is the motivation to produce the goods. I would like us as a team to play for one another and to work as a strong unit. It is a game of small margins, and when it is tight, the scales will tilt in the direction of the team with a strong cohesion,” said Prince.
