Ashwell Prince to retire after English County season

Ashwell Prince said he decided to retire after getting Lancashire back up into Division One.

Johannesburg: Former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince has confirmed that he will retire from cricket at the end of the current English county season. Prince said he had decided to take this step after achieving the goal of getting Lancashire back up into Division One of the English County circuit. Prince said he absolutely loved his time at Lancashire, Sport24 reported. The 38-year-old made his Test debut against Australia and his ODI debut against Bangladesh in 2002. Prince has been the leading scorer for Lancashire in 2015 with over 2000 runs in all formats. He had scored over 18000 runs in 286 first-class games, including 45 centuries and 89 fifties. The player also wrote his name into the Lancashire’s record books for sharing a 501-run partnership with Alviro Petersen during the county championship match against Glamorgan. Ashwell Prince has played 66 Test matches for South Africa and has a decent average of 41.64 with 11 centuries and 11 half-centuries. His highest score is 162 not-out. The 38-year-old has also featured in 52 ODIs and has an average of 35.10. He has not scored any century in ODIs. Prince came into the South African side through quota system but still proved his mettle in Test cricket later on. Last year, Yorkshire captain Gale was banned for two matches.
