Dhaka: Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan has said the country may host the Asia Cup for the third successive time on Wednesday. Bangladesh also hosted the 2012 and 2014 editions of the tournament. The next Asia Cup will be held before the World Twenty20, reports bdnews24.com. India, who will host the ICC World Twenty20 in March/April next year, is more likely to host the 2016 Asia Cup. But Bangladesh, too, could be the hosts, said the BCB chief in a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday. “There are chances that the Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh. But nothing is confirmed until an ACC (Asian Cricket Council) meeting takes a call on the issue. It is most likely that the next Asia Cup will be held in India. If not so, Bangladesh will probably be the host.” He said the matter would be settled in ACC’s next meeting. “If Bangladesh receives proposal, the Asia Cup will be held in Bangladesh.” Bangladesh to host T20 tournament for physically handicapped

The Asia Cup competition is held in T20 and one-day formats alternatively. According to that, next year’s tournament will be in the shortest format. The United Arab Emirates, too, is listed among the probable hosts of the 13th edition of the competition. Sri Lanka are the current reigning Asian champions after beating Pakistan by five wickets in the final of the 2014 edition of the event, making them the most successful side in the tournament’s history alongside India with five titles each. Pakistan have been crowned champion in 2000 and 2012 respectively, beating hosts Bangladesh in a thriller of a contest in the latter. Bangladesh’s National Cricket League cleared of match-fixing cloud
