Asia Cup 2018: Matches involving Hong Kong will get ODI status
The International Cricket Council [ICC] has decided to accord One-day International [ODI] status to matches involving Hong Kong at the upcoming Asia Cup.

The International Cricket Council [ICC] has decided to accord One-day International [ODI] status to matches involving Hong Kong at the upcoming Asia Cup 2018. Hong Kong have been placed in group A alongside India and Pakistan.
According to a report by the PTI, the BCCI had placed a request with the ICC to accord both group matches involving Hong Kong [vs India and Pakistan] to be considered as ODIs.
”The ICC board has agreed to our request of according ODI status to both India vs Hong Kong and Pakistan vs Hong Kong games. If you remember during women’s Asia Cup T20, India vs Thailand match wasn’t counted as an official T20. But this time, there’s been an exception,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by PTI on Sunday.
Hong Kong who haven’t been given the ODI status by the ICC, recently beat Nepal at the recently held Asia Cup qualifiers. Nepal recently were given ODI status.
The Asia Cup starts from September 15 in the UAE. Hong Kong begin their campaign against India and then will face Pakistan. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan have been placed in Group B.
Each group will see two teams progressing into the Super Four stage. The top two teams after the second stage will face each other in the final on September 28.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in India but the BCCI outsourced it to the UAE.
