Pakistan Women took on the Bangladesh women in the gold medal match of the Asian Games 2014 on Friday. Pakistan Women won the toss and they had elected to bat first. They could only manage to score 97 runs in 20 overs. Pakistan Women kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Bangladesh Women bowled really well to restrict Pakistan women to a meagre total of 97 runs. Bismah Maroof was the top scorer for Pakistan Women with 24 runs.

Rumana Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers. She picked up two wickets by giving away only 13 runs in her four overs that she bowled. Fahima Khatun, Salma khatun and Jahanara Alam picked up a wicket each. All the bowlers were economical. None of the Pakistan batswomen were allowed to get away. Maroof and Nain Abidi’s partnership in the middle overs helped them to recover from the early debacle.

Bangladesh Women were good in field as well. Paksitan Women could only manage to hit three boundaries in thier entire innings. The bowlers bowled in good areas and they did not give any room whatsoever. Jahanara Alam and Panna Ghosh opened the proceedings for Bangladesh. Though Ghosh is a death over specialist but she was asked to open the bowling by her skipper, Ghosh was a bit expensive but Alam bowled well. Shaila Sharmin chipped in during the middle overs with her off-breaks. Bangladesh Women now need 98 runs to win this match and also clinch the Gold medal that is in the offing.

Brief scores:

Pakistan Women 97 for 6 in 20 overs (Bismah Maroof 24, Nain Abidi 18; Rumana Ahmed 2 for 13) vs Bangladesh Women.
