India’s manager for the upcoming Test series against Australia, Shivlal Yadav believes that the tour Down Under is an opportunity for the Indian batting stalwarts Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman to prove a point after their poor outing in England, where only Rahul Dravid clicked with the bat.
“I feel the Aussies will be raring to have a go at the Indians, especially after the morale-boosting win against South Africa in the recent drawn Test series. In that context, I believe it will be another test for the battle-scarred veterans like Sachin, Dravid, Laxman and Sehwag to prove a point after the dismal tour of England where only Dravid clicked with the bat,” Shivlal said.
54-year-old Shivlal was previously appointed the team manager for India’s One-Day International series in England, and also during a previous Australia tour under the captaincy of Sunil Gavaskar in 1981.
Shivlal, who is the BCCI vice-president and also the vice-president of Hyderabad Cricket Association, said it is an honour and a tough task to be Team India’s manager.
“Well, it is a huge honour and also a major challenge for which I am ready,” he was quoted by The Hindu.
“Well, to be named manager of the Indian team thrice within five years speaks volumes of the respect Shiv commands in the BCCI,” says HCA secretary D.S. Chalapathi.
Former India spinner Shivlal played 35 Tests and bagged 102 wickets.
