Melbourne: Australia celebrated their victory through the night in Melbourne and then turned up to greet their fans on Monday morning. The victory in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 on home soil is a great achievement for Michael Clarke’s men. Back in 1992, when Australia last hosted the World Cup, they failed to defend the title on home soil. However, they were up for the challenge this time. Opening batsman, Aaron Finch believes his team has every right to celebrate after the victory. “I think we’ve got every right to celebrate as long and as hard we want. A lot of effort goes into winning a World Cup,” Finch said during the celebrations with fans at Federation Square. “I spoke to Mum and Dad, who were at the game. Made sure they hung around and then join us in the change-room,” he said. Picture Gallery: Australia vs New Zealand, ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Final at Melbourne
Australia’s bowlers set up a comprehensive victory in the final as they bowled a dangerous New Zealand team out for only 183. Finch praised the efforts of the bowlers, “It went to play from the start. We had a great plan and the bowlers stuck to it unbelievably well and to restrict such a damaging side to 180 was a great effort.” Read: ICC Cricket World Cup 2015: Top 10 innings
Finch plays for Victoria and is a local boy, which makes this World Cup victory all the more special for him. “Absolutely. It is an unbelievable feeling. To do it at home was unbelievable,” he said when asked about the perfect finale. “We enjoy each other’s company and sang the song out in the MCG just before they dug up the wicket,” he said speaking about Australia’s immediate celebrations on victory.
