Australia, who are scheduled to play a two-Test series in Bangladesh beginning with a tour game on October 3, were to depart from Sydney on September 28, but have indefinitely postponed the departure owing to said security concerns. Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive was adviced by authorities about the potential security threats due to which CA decided to carry further talks with officials prior to finalising anything. If the departure is significantly delayed, Australia’s tour game against a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI may be in jeopardy. “We have received advice from DFAT and based on that information we are working with security experts and the Bangladesh Cricket Board on a revised security plan for the tour,” CA chief executive Sutherland said in a media release. We want the tour to go ahead and are planning for that, but the safety and security of our players and support staff is our number-one priority and won’t be compromised,” Sutherland asserted.

“We will wait to receive updated security information early in the week before confirming the team’s travel arrangements. In the meantime, we are working with the ACA and keeping our players and support staff fully informed,” Sutherland concluded.

It is yet to be known what incident(s) has spurred the said security concern, however there has been small amount of unrest in the country following the hacking to death of three secular bloggers in quick succession by Islamists, which could partially be responsible for Australia’s hesitation. However, there is no confirmation at this point of such details.
