Pat McKenna, Australia’s under-19 star, has been nominated in the Australian Football League (AFL) draft. This has been a surprising development for the country’s cricketing fraternity as McKenna is one of the most talented cricketers in Australia. McKenna was the captain of the Australian under-19 team during their tour to Sri Lanka earlier this year.

AAP reported that there are four clubs in the AFP that are interested in him. Pat Howard, Cricket Australia’s (CA) performance manager said, “We respect Pat’s decision. He’s a terrific kid and a terrific athlete.”

Some of the younger players in the past have stayed on with cricket and not been moved towards the AFL. Mitchell Marsh is one such player. Speaking about that, Howard said, “They’re all making their way at either international or state level which is pleasing and reflective of the many opportunities elite cricket presents.”
