The third Test between Australia and New Zealand of the ongoing series at Adelaide will be the first day-night Test in the history of cricket. As Australia’s pace spearhead Mitchell Johnson called it a day after the WACA Test, bowlers spot is up for the grab. Australia’s left arm spinner Steve O’Keefe has been impressive with the pink ball. Looking at his current form, the selectors think it will be  a good move and are considering him to pair with NAthan Lyon in the iconic day-night Test. O’Keefe has played just a solitary Test in his cricketing career but has been named in the 13 man squad for the third Test along with James Pattinson and Shaun Marsh.  FULL CRICKET SCORECARD: Australia vs New Zealand 3rd Test at Adelaide Oval

Darren Lehmann was quoted in a report from cricket.com.au saying, “His record in Shield cricket – he continues to rack up the numbers. We’ll wait until we see the wicket … but we’re seriously looking at (playing two spinners).”

O’Keefe has chipped 18 wickets in First-Class day-night Test at this venue at a staggering average of 18.22. He also hinted that their 12th man for the first two Tests Peter Siddle will come into play in the decisive third encounter. Josh Hazlewood did a tedious job at WACA and might be rested for the third game. It seems that a final call over the playing XI after having a look at the pitch in Adelaide. O’Keefe has done reasonably well with the pink ball and feels all set for a big opportunity. He was quoted saying, “I’ve certainly had success with the pink ball, and I think the selectors have noticed that. It is safe to call me that (a pink-ball specialist). I’ve played three pink ball games now, and they’ve all been at Adelaide Oval. In each case I feel the pink ball has certainly helped out spinners, and I’ve had success with it. Fingers crossed that (captain) Steve Smith and the selectors see it the same way as I do, and if there’s that option for that second spinner there, let’s run with it.”

Australia squad for 3rd Test: David Warner, Joe Burns, Steve Smith (c), Shaun Marsh, Adam Voges, Mitch Marsh, Peter Nevill, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, James Pattinson, Nathan Lyon, Steve O’Keefe, Peter Siddle.
