Brisbane: Nov 10, 2012
Day Two of the first Test match between Australia and South Africa at Brisbane turned out to be a damp squib for the thousands of spectators who had arrived at the Gabba to witness a spectacle. Not a single delivery was bowled as incessant rains lashed through Brisbane since morning, much to the crowd’s disappointment.
The umpires, who were monitoring the conditions since morning, finally decided to call it a day at 4pm local time. They have, however, declared that play will begin 30 minutes early tomorrow.
Weather permitting, South Africa will begin Day Three where they left off on the first day, holding an advantage at 255 for two. Yesterday, Hashim Amla (90*) and Jacques Kallis (84*) dominated Australia’s bowlers to seize control after captain Graeme Smith (10) departed early.
Alviro Petersen, who has signed on for Somerset for the 2013 English County season, too chipped in with a valuable 64.
Brief Scores: South Africa 255 for 2 (Hashim Amla 90*, Jacques Kallis 84*; James Pattinson 1 for 53) vs Australia
