West Indies opener Jonathan Charles slammed a 35-ball 57 to take West Indies to 191 for six in their 20 overs against Australia in the first Twenty20 International at Brisbane on Wednesday.
West Indies got off to a poor start after winning the toss and electing to bat first as they lost opener Chris Gayle in the second over of the day after he mistimed a pull-shot of Josh Hazlewood.
Charles added 88 runs off 57 deliveries for the second wicket with left-hander Darren Bravo to put West Indies in command. However, both of them fell in quick succession to get Australia back into the game.
Coulter-Nile dismissed Charles after an entertaining 57, a knock that included seven boundaries and one six. Bravo soon followed Charles in the dressing room as he was involved in a mix-up with new batsman Kieron Pollard and was left stranded in the middle of the pitch.
Big-hitter Pollard and Dwayne Bravo continued from where the earlier pair left. Pollard smashed a 17-ball 26, including two sixes and added a quickfire 33 with Bravo for the fourth wicket.
Skipper Darren Sammy provided the late flourish as he scored a seven-ball 20 to accelerate West Indian innings towards the end.
For Australia, young James Faulkner starred with the ball picking up three wickets for 28 runs.
