Defending champions, Australia women take on Sri Lanka women , in Super 10 Group A, Match 13 of the ongoing ICC Women’s World T20 2016, at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday. Australia, being the defending champions have been off to a moderate start, as they won their opening tie to South Africa, but lost their very next tie to New Zealand in the trans-Tasmanian tie, and will look to bounce back against Sri Lanka, who on the other hand, have more or less suffered the same fate as of now, as they lost their opening game to New Zealand, but bounced back to win their next tie against Ireland, and stay alive in the contest. LIVE CRICKET UPDATES: Australia Women vs Sri Lanka Women, Super 10 Group A, Match 13 at Delhi
Australia are the defending champions and also the most successful team in tournament history having won the last three seasons on a trot. They are favourites to win the crown in 2016 as well. Sri Lanka, on the other hand have not performed well since the inaugural season of the tournament. They have played 16 matches in the four seasons starting 2009, but were able to win only 12, and have a win percentage of just 25 per cent.
Australia’s win percentage of 77.50 from 19 games which fetched a result is much better than the Lankans. Australia won 15 T20Is and lost the remaining four matches. Besides the 19 games, one of their T20I matches ended in a tie. Sri Lanka will certainly want to improve their record in the most prestigious women’s tournament for the shortest version of the game. Sri Lanka will slightly benefit from subcontinent conditions. In spite of that, the Australians are a far better team going into the tourney, owing to the many star performers they have.
