Avi Barot century helps Gujarat revival in C.K. Nayudu tie

A century by wicket-keeper batsman Avi Barot and fifties by skipper Priyank Panchal and Bhargav Merai helped Gujarat make a strong reply to Mumbai’s imposing 526 for nine, as they ended day three at 320 for four in the West Zone C K Nayudu tie.

Opener Barot made a crucial 140 in 253 balls with the help of 19 fours and one hit over the fence to ensure that the visitors go into the final day’s play of the four-day U-22 tie with a good chance of taking the first innings lead.

Earlier, resuming the day at 0-0, Barot and Panchal (57, 101b, 9×4, 1×6) added 137 runs for the opening wicket before the latter was dismissed.

New man Manpreet Juneja (3) too returned quickly but Barot took control of the situation adding 57 for the third wicket with Samit Gohil (20) and 74 for the fourth with Merai, who was unbeaten on 64 (132b, 4×9).

With the score at 271 Barot was dismissed when he was caught off the bowling of Siddhesh Lad.

Merai, along with Chirag Gandhi (20, 64b, 4×3) ensured that Gujarat suffered no further damage and go into the final day’s play at MCA’s Bandra-Kurla complex ground with a deficit of 186 runs.

For Mumbai, Lad, Aaquib Sheikh, skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Siddharth Prasad shared a wicket apiece.(PTI)
