Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s son Mohammed Ayazuddin continued to battle for life on Monday, a day after he met with a road accident.

The 19-year-old was in a critical condition and was admitted in the Apollo Hospital after being involved in a high-speed motorbike crash on Sunday morning.

Azharuddin, who flew from London early Monday, rushed to the hospital after consoling his sister, whose 16-year-old son Ajmal-ur-Rahman died in the same accident.

According to doctors, Ayazuddin was still on ventilator. They were continuing medication to maintain his blood pressure.

Mahesh Joshi, head, emergency medicines at Apollo Hospital, said the youngster sustained serious injuries in the chest and kidneys. A surgery was performed on him late Sunday to stop bleeding from the chest.

A multi-specialty team of doctors is closely monitoring his condition.

Ayaz was driving a high-power sports bike with his cousin Ajmal-ur-Rahman, riding pillion when he lost control and they fell down near Poppalaguda on the Outer Ring Road.

Both suffered head injuries. Ajmal later died in the hospital.

Ayaz, a promising cricketer in Hyderabad school cricket, is the younger of Azharuddin s two sons from his former wife Noureen.

Ayaz, a second year B Com student at St Mary’s College, is said to resemble his father in his batting style, who was known for his elegant and wristy stroke play. Ayaz is also an useful off-break bowler.
