Former India opener Sanjay Bangar, ex-left arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni and former stumpers Zulfiqar Parkar and Sulakshan Kulkarni are in the running for the job of new coach of Mumbai for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.
“Six persons have applied for the coach’s position and the list includes Sanjay Bangar, Zulfiqar Parkar, Zubin Bharucha (former opener), Sandeep Dahad (left arm medium pacer), Nilesh Kulkarni and Sulakshan Kulkarni,” senior Mumbai Cricket Association official Ravi Savant told PTI.
Mumbai’s previous coach Pravin Amre quit after the last season that proved unfruitful for the 39-time Ranji champions.
Savant said the Cricket Improvement Committee (headed by former India stumper Chandrakant Pandit) would choose the new Mumbai senior team’s coach as well as coaches of the MCA’s junior teams along with the selection panels for seniors and various age groups.
“The CIC is to meet on Monday,” said Savant who is also a member of the committee, besides being the MCA’s treasurer.
Savant also said that a new curator for the refurbished Wankhede Stadium would be appointed next week by the MCA’s Mandan Committee.
“The contract of (previous curator) Sudhir Naik ended on May 31. A new curator needs to be appointed by the Maidan Committee,” he said.
Naik earned the praise of many for getting the Wankhede Stadium ready to host the World Cup matches, including the grand finale on April 2, on time. The stadium was taken up for renovation in mid-2008. (PTI)
