The Bangladesh Cricket Coard (BCB), after settling down with their bowling coach, have now announced Thilan Samaraweera as their batting consultant for the upcoming series with England. BCB were eager to get their coaching and support stuff ready soon and started off by appointing West Indies’ Courtney Walsh as their bowling coach and with Samaraweera from Sri Lanka to improve the players’ batting, the team will be ready for their upcoming cricket season. Samaraweera has recently played the same role of batting consultant with the Australia cricket team. Bangladesh will play their first international match since ICC World T20 2016 with Afghanistan at home and will then enter the England series. Talking to espncricinfo.com, BCB President Nazmul Hassan said, “Thilan Samaraweera, the batting specialist, has been hired for the England series as a consultant. We will see if we want to extend him. We are still looking for a spin bowling coach. [We will] get the best among those available. We hope to appoint one before the New Zealand series.”

Bangladesh have made a few changes in the coaching stuff, as they have replaced their assistant coach Ruwan Kalpage with their fielding coach Richard Halshall taking over the position.

Earlier, Walsh had told AFP about his upcoming tenure with Bangladesh, “I’m thrilled to be joining the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as their specialist bowling coach. Having watched Bangladesh cricket from afar over the years, they are a seriously talented bunch of players. Chandika Hathurusingha has done a wonderful job as coach so hopefully I can complement his skills and continue the positive progress.”

Walsh is set to arrive in Dhaka on Friday.
