After much speculation about who will be Bangladesh’s spin coach, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have roped in Stuart MacGill for the position. MacGill, a former Australian leg-spinner played under the limelight of Shane Warne during his peak and hence was always a second fiddle. The BCB has appointed MacGill for a period of three months as confirmed by BCB President Nazmul Hasan.  The board is now awaiting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket Australia (CA) so that MacGill can start working with the team ahead of Australia 2-Test tour to Bangladesh.

Nazmul made this announcement after a meeting of the board of directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium last week after debating on who to replace the dismissed Ruwan Kalpage. Speaking to Cricbuzz, BCB chairman Akram Khan said, “We have confirmed MacGill. We are waiting for him to get his NOC from CA.” He further added, “Even if we don’t get him before the series against Australia we are sure we will have him in our dressing as soon as he obtains the required documents to work here.”

Kalpage was sacked last year by BCB after thet found him coming in at odd-hours and being irregular. MacGill’s hardly has any work experience in coaching at international or national level. He has mostly  mentored young and upcoming spinners in Australia from time to time.

BCB could hand MacGill a long-term contract if he fits the bill and has a positive impact on the side, that has a plethora of spinners.
