Bangladesh Under-19 thrashed South Africa Under-19 by 43 runs in the opening match of ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup at Chittagong on Wednesday. Batting first, Bangladesh Under-19 posted a first innings total of 240 in 50 overs, before bundling out their opponents for 197 with eight balls to spare.Bangaldesh’s innings was inclusive of a total six maximum hits and 19 boundaries. Nazmul Hossain top-scored for Bangladesh Under-19 side with 73 runs from 82 ball and while that knock, he shared as partnership worth 59 runs from 13.5 overs with Mehedi Hasan Miraz for fourth wicket. Before Nazmul took charge, it was opening batsman Pinak Ghosh who gave a flying start to Bangaldesh Under-19. He scored 43 off 51 balls before getting dismissed in the 20th over. The other batsman who performed well for the hosts was Joyraz Sheik. He lasted on crease for minutes scoring 46 off 50 deliveries. South Africa Under-19’s Wiaan Mulder bagged three wickets, while other wickets were shared between Sean Whitehead, Tony de Zorzi and Lutho Sipamla.

In reply to Bangladesh’s 240 for 7, South Africa Under-19 were 5 for 1 in 2.2 overs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne was dismissed by Mehedi Hasan Miraz for one run off nine balls. The other opener Liam Smith went on to score a century for South Africa Under-19. He scored an exact 100 off 146 balls before getting out in the 45th over. A total of six South African batsmen were dismissed for a single digit.

The wicket-takers for Bangladesh Under-19 were Mehedi Hasan Miraz, Mohammad Saifuddin, Saeed Sarkar and Saleh Ahmed Shawon. While Mehedi Hasan and Saifuddin claimed three scalps each, the other two bowlers had two wickets to their names.
Bangladesh Under-19 next face Scotland Under-19 at Cox’s Bazar on January 31 and South Africa Under-19 boys will play their next fixture on the same day against Namibia Under-19.
