The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the 14-man squad for the first Test against Australia on Monday. With wicketkeeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal as captain and vice captain respectively, the squad picked for the first Test at Chittagong, which begins on October 9, remains the same as that of the two-Test series against South Africa earlier this year, with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam recovering from jaundice to make it to the squad, according to a report on ESPNCricinfo. Australia have already announced their squad, which will be captained by Steven Smith and retains the likes of Joe Burns, with the likes of Andrew Fekete, Usman Khawaja and Stephen O’Keefe earning call-ups as well. Australia tour Bangladesh for a Test series for the first time since 2006, although the tour is currently hanging in balance due to security concerns for the current world champions. According to latest reports, Australia’s department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and national security organisation ASIO revealed that militants in the South Asian country might target Australian cricketers during the tour, due to which Cricket Australia’s (CA) Anti-Corruption and Security Manager Sean Carroll along with support team manager Gavin Dovey and security manager Frank Dimasi are in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka in order to assess the situation.
