BAN vs ENG 2nd Test: Sabbir cleared to play

Bangladesh batsman Sabbir Rahman, who made his debut in the first Test against England at Chittagong has been cleared to play the second Test at Mirpur after he managed to recover from illness. Sabbir made half-century in the second innings and almost helped Bangladesh pull off a historic win, but fell 22 runs short of the target. Sabbir is believed to have been paying with fever throughout the game and also went off the field in England’s second innings after he was struck on the head while batting. According to the Bangladesh physio Bayjidul Islam, Sabbir underwent an endoscopy and will return to training on Thursday ahead of the second Test on Friday. “Sabbir had been suffering from gastric-related problems for quite some time,” Bayjidul said. “He had stomach pain, so we kept him under observation in Chittagong where he visited a doctor. There had been some findings but when he underwent the endoscopy at the Apollo Hospital, there wasn’t anything serious in it. It is a normal gastric problem – peptic ulcer. The doctor has advised him for some dietary changes. Since he did the endoscopy today, he has been told to take the day off. He can start training from tomorrow. The good news is that the pain has also reduced. He will get better,” as reported by espncricinfo.com. Bangladesh had called up Mossadek Hossain as cover for Sabbir.
England have played Bangladesh nine times and have suffered defeats on each of those nine occasions. Bangladesh losing the One-Day International (ODI) series 2-1, will look to level the Test series now.
