England all-rounder Chris Woakes believes stand-in skipper Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan are of the similar mould when it comes to playing cricket. England’s regular limited-overs skipper Morgan pulled out of the tour of Bangladesh citing security reasons. As a result, wicketkeeper Buttler has been given an additional responsibility of leading the team in the One-Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh. Morgan has been criticised by many cricketers, but is absence will give another player to make his name in the national team. Opener Alex Hales has also pulled out of the tour. Test skipper Alastair Cook will now have a new opening partner once again. Full Cricket Scorecard: Bangladesh vs England, 1st ODI at Mirpur
“Fingers crossed, we can come away with a big win under Jos,” said Woakes. “That is what we want and to keep playing the sort of cricket we have up to now under Eoin [who chose to miss the trip amid safety concerns]. Jos is in the same mould as Eoin in the way he plays his cricket. He is an aggressive player and I’m sure the guys will respond to him. It will be a great experience for him,” according to mirror.co.uk. READ: Hameed on verge of receiving ENG call-up for BAN tour
“It will be a tough tour because of the quality of the opposition, the conditions and with all the security issues around it, but I’m sure Jos will be a great captain. He’s done it once before and did a good job and in the future he might be a full-time captain,” Woakes added. READ: Buttler respects Morgan’s decision to withdraw from BAN tour
“Eoin will not be diminished in my eyes. The ex-captains who have said it will be hard for him to come back are entitled to their opinion, but we all agreed that no one would be judged on their decision, which is mature. Whether Eoin is captain or not is irrelevant,” said Woakes, who has been one of England’s best player this summer. READ: Morgan, Hales withdraw from England’s tour of Bangladesh
England kick start their campaign with the first ODI on October 7. They will play a warm-up match ahead of the series on October 4.
