Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed have stabilised Pakistan’s innings in their Asia Cup 2016 match against Bangladesh. After being three-down at the end of 4.5 overs with only 18 runs on the scoreboard, Pakistan lost their fourth wicket in the form of Umar Akmal. He advanced down the track off Taskin Ahmed’s bowling and played a reckless shot which was in no way required. He created some room for himself and hit the ball hard but ends up giving an easy catch at deep point. Shoaib Malik and Sarfraz Ahmed then tried to steady the ship. Malik, in particular started well with some good defencive stroke play but was not able to rotate the strike after getting his eye in. Bangladesh bowlers were playing with their deliveries quite well. The batsmen were kept guessing when that surprise shorter ball would pop up. Six runs came off the 12th over which was bowled by Shakib Al Hasan. Pakistan batters attempted a few aerial shots as well. Sarfraz came down the track but Shakib shortened his length. Bangladesh wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim ran to take the catch. He dived but couldn’t complete the catch. Malik, in the next over smashed Mortaza for a boundary over third man region. It was a poor widish ball and the batter got enough time and room to play the cut shot. Good thing with Bangladesh’s bowling was that they didn’t just stop the batsmen from hitting many big shots but also made it difficult for them to rotate the strike.
