Recap of first T20I

Opting to bat, Proteas posted a healthy total of 195 for 4 riding on contributions from Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers. Bangladesh’s bowlers struggled to put a lid on the run-scoring, and majority of their bowlers conceded over 8.5 per over. Taskin Ahmed, skipper Shakib Al Hasan, Shaiful Islam, Mohammad Saifuddin were hammered all over the park. Only Mehedi Hasan, and to some extent Rubel Hossain and Mahmudullah, looked in some control.

In reply, Bangladesh did give a decent fight with the willow. Nonetheless, they needed a big innings from one of their main batters, and that led to the defeat. Soumya Sarkar and Saifuddin held their ends, but fell without amassing a big score. Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim and Sabbir Rahman chipped in with cameos, but much more was required.

South Africa will like to maintain the same bowling lineup for Sunday’s clash. Every bowler made significant contributions. The likes of Dane Paterson, Bueran Hendricks, Andile Phehlukwayo and Aaron Phangiso got 2 scalps each in the series opener. They will be eager to fill up the wicket coloumn with vital breakthroughs and try to maintain pressure.

It will be tough for Bangladesh. They haven’t clicked as a unit, and need a spirited effort to notch up their maiden victory in the whole tour. For that, their bowlers need to execute better plans to achieve desirable results.
