Sunil Joshi, former India left-arm spinner, who currently serves Bangladesh as its spin bowling consultant, is not going to be available with the team for the Asia Cup 2018. This was confirmed by official sources in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Reportedly, BCB sources indicated that Joshi is planning to stay back in India as he was roped in by the National Cricket Academy (NCA). ”We have learnt that he will be working in National Cricket Academy (NCA) and if that is the case he is not available for us,” said a BCB official.

BCB employed Joshi as a spin bowling consultant prior to the home series against Australia in August 2017, after Ruwan Kalpage had left the job. They also tried to solicit the services of Stuart Macgill, the former Australian leggie. Macgill declined to take up the job due to illness and it was then that BCB turned towards Joshi.

Joshi has played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India. His best figures in ODIs are 10-6-6-5, which came against South Africa in a match at Nairobi in 1999.

Bangladesh cricket team will start off their preparations for the upcoming Asia Cup on August 27. They are scheduled to take on Sri Lanka in the tournament opener on September 15. The Asia Cup is going to be played in the UAE this time around in the ODI format with six teams being in the fray for the first time in the tournament’s history.
