Barbados Tridents beat St Kitts Nevis Patriots by 25 runs to reach on the second spot on Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Points Table. AB de Villiers‘ quickfire 82 helped Barabados Tridents reach 180 at the end of the innings. In reply St Kitts and Nevis Patriots had a promising start. They were going more than 10 runs per over. They lost both their openers shortly which changed the game. Nevertheless, Lendl Simmons and JJ Smuts provided a good start to their chase. Despite Faf du Plessis and Jonathan Carter’s efforts with the bat, St Kitts fell short of the target with a margin of 25 runs. They kept losing wickets which hampered the run-rate they needed to chase down the total. ALSO READ: AB de Villiers’ quickfire 82 takes Barbados Tridents to 180-6 in CPL 2016
Former Australian player Brad Hodge failed miserably as he got out after scoring just two runs from eight balls. Du Plessis and Carter shared a partnership of 56 runs from 49 balls. Du Plessis too got out in the 16th over when St Kitts needed 66 runs to win from 28 balls. Jonathan Carter tried to catch up with the required run rate but got out in 18th over. St Kitts still needed 39 runs from 15 balls. The lower order failed to make any impact as they suffered a batting collapse. ALSO READ: CPL 2016: Players involve in nasty head-on collision
Earlier Barbados Tridents had a poor start as they lost both their openers, Steven Taylor and Raymond Reifer cheaply. Shoaib Malik too got out cheaply as Samuel Badree removed him. AB paced his innings and played with caution initially. Nicholas Pooran was attacking from the other end. He scored 38 before Tabraiz Shamsi bowled him. Skipper Pollard came in to bat and shared a partnership of 83 runs with AB. One of the highlight of the match was the collision between Kieron Powell and JJ Smuts trying to catch the ball in the mid-wicket region. Powell was soon rushed to the hospital, he could not come to bat for St Kitts Nevis Patriots. His presence at the crease could have made a difference in the outcome of the game.
Brief Scores:
