Barbados Tridents vs Cape Cobras, CLT20 2014 Match 12: Match is in balance with five overs to go

Sep 26, 2014

Richard Levi powered the Cape Cobra’s chase of 175 against the Barbados Tridents. He and Hashim Amla got the Trident’s score past 50 in the fourth over. Levi finally got out to left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein after scoring a 18 ball 39. Cobras were 56 for one after five overs. Omphile Ramela joined Amla at the crease. Cape Cobras were 127 for three after 15 overs recurring another 48 runs with seven wickets in hand and 30 balls remaining.

Earlier, Jonathan Carter‘s unbeaten century took Barbados Tridents to 174 for eight score against Cape Cobras in the important Group B game of Champions Lague Twenty20 (CLT20) 2014. He steadied the ship for Tridents after opening batsman, Shane Dowrich and number three batsman Raymon Reifer were out early. Charl Langeveldt got the wicket of Dowrich whereas Reifer was run out.

Tridents were in early trouble when they were was seven for two in the third over. Dilshan Munaweera again played an attacking innings and he along with Crater made a valuable partnership of 75 runs for the third wicket. After Munaweera got out, Carter single handedly took charge and took Tridents to a competitive total. The left-hander reached his hundred in 64 balls and remained not out on 111.

There were four run-outs in the innings for the Tridents. For Cobras only Langeveldt and Sybrand Engelbrecht managed to keep the Barbados batsmen in check. Both bowlers took two wickets each. Vernon Philander the other wicket which felt. None of the other bowlers from Cobras made any impact upon Tridents batsmen.

Cobras and Tridents are playing an important game of Group B of the ongoing Champions Lague Twenty20 (CLT20) 2014 at Mohali. Both Cobras havent’won a single match in this tournament whereas Barbados too lost their first match against  Kings XI Punjab. Tridents can still make an impact in this tournament if they win all three of their matches. On the other hand, Cobras will not want to bow out of this tournament so soon.

However, fortune hasn’t favoured Cobras in this edition of CLT20. The team is missing Dale Steyn and JP Duminy, their star T20 performers, but they still have big names like Hashim Amla, Richard Levi, Justin Kemp, Justin Ontong, Robin Peterson, Vernon Philander, and Charl Langeveldt in their team. This could be their last chance to change their fortunes, because they already lost against the Northern Knights and Hobart Hurricanes.

Cobras won the all important toss and decided to bowl first. Dane Piedt is out with the arm injury he sustained in Cobras’ previous game and Justin Kemp comes in. Shane Dowrich and Akeal Hosein were in for the Tridents in place of Elton Chigumbura and William Perkins.
