Dhaka Dynamites did a magnificent job in restricting Barisal Bulls to 132 in the 29th encounter of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2016-17 at Dhaka. Barisal Bulls struggled to get things going as they lost wickets at regular intervals. It did not let them achieve fruitful dividends. Barisal Bulls earlier won the toss and elected to bat first on a surface, which looked conducive for batting. They got off to a shaky start as they lost three quick wickets inside 50 runs. Shahriar Nafees was undone by Abu Jayed in the third over as he flicked one straight into the hands of Seekkuge Prasanna in the deep. Nafees had only man to beat but he failed to do so and floundered for three. onsecutive losses. The Dynamites batsmen once again took them to a comfortable position having put up a challenging target and will look to defend it now with a skilful bowling attack. Dilshan Munaweera looked in good touch and smashed couple of consecutive boundaries off Shakib Al Hasan to break the shackles but was unlucky to have been run out. Things went from bad to worse when Jeevan Mendis also met a similar fate and was run out due to some horrible miscommunication. While eyeing for a second run, Mendis responded to Mushfiqur Rahim s call but the latter at the very last moment turned it down as a result of which both the batsmen ended up being on the same end. Mendis had to walk back after adding just seven runs to the board. Bulls were in deep trouble.

Rahim stood like a rock and weathered the early storm with immense confidence but Shakib ended his run on 36. Just when things were looking good for Barisal Bulls, they lost their skipper, which was followed by Nadif Chowdhury. Rahim and Chowdhury did some repair work and accounted for 47 runs between them. Enamul Haque did not manage to make any impact and failed when his team needed him the most. Rumman Raees cameo of 25 in the end helped his side edge past 120-run mark. He played well to garner some valuable runs and took Shakib for a cleaner on the ultimate delivery of the innings. Thisara Perera remained unbeaten on 15 along with Raees. Bulls now have some runs on the board but their bowlers will have to bring their best game out.

Abu Jayed was outstanding with the ball and maintained pressure on Barisal Bulls batsmen. He scalped a solitary wicket and was economical by leaking just 12 runs from his spell of four overs. Dwayne Bravo turned out to be a tad expensive as he gave away 35 runs and had one wicket to his name. Shakib did a commendable job but went for runs in the final over, which disrupted his figures. Dhaka Dynamites have given themselves a golden opportunity to conquer this game as the target is not very challenging. But the smaller targets are often difficult to hunt down, and they need to be wary of this fact too.

Brief Scores:

Barisal Bulls 132 in 20 Overs (Mushfiqur Rahim 36, Rumman Raees 25; Abu Jayed 1 for 12) against Dhaka Dynamites.
