Former joint secretary Pravin Barve on Friday filed his presidential nomination to make it a three-way contest for the coveted post in the Mumbai Cricket Association elections, to be held on July 15.
Barve, a one-time confidant of former MCA president and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi, will fight with incumbent vice presidents — former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar and union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Barve was also one of the nine candidates to file nomination before Friday’s deadline for the two vice presidents’ posts, along with former Mumbai Ranji Trophy captain Milind Rege and former India wicketkeeper Chandrakant Pandit.
“I am contesting as an independent candidate,” he said.
Barve has also filed his nomination for the posts of treasurer and two joint secretaries.
As many as 33 nominations have been received for eleven managing committee posts. Besides ex-Test cricketers Pandit, Balwinder Sandhu and Karsan Ghavri, the list also includes a woman candidate, Hema Phadke.
Rege, Pandit, Sandhu and Ghavri are fighting as panel members of the Vengsarkar group.
Also in the fray is incumbent joint secretary and former cricketer and ex-Indian team coach, Lalchand Rajput, who is contesting to retain his post.
The last date of withdrawal of nominations is July 12.
