With the pay dispute in place in Australia, Big Bash League (BBL) is already catching up. Melbourne Stars were captained by David Hussey until last year. They have now replaced Hussey with all-rounder John Hastings. Hastings had missed the entire 2016-17 season due to injury. He returned to the national side after a successful stint with Worcestershire. However, that was cut short as well when Hastings injured his foot. However, his injury would not prolong until the Australian summer. Hastings was part of Australia s campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy. He also played the T20 Internationals for Australia in Sri Lanka last year.

After being appointed captain, Hastings told cricket.com.au, We have a great Club and I can t wait to pull the green shirt back on this summer and lead the team. Our squad is very close and we have built a great culture at the Club. Stars have already decided on 16 off 18 players in their side. Apart from Hussey, Tom Triffitt has also been left out from the squad. Kevin Pietersen and Luke Wright continue to be the international players in the side. There are reports circulating of Ben Dunk moving to Adelaide Strikers from Melbourne Stars. The Stars have always been strong contenders in BBL but are yet to win a title.

They had entered the semi-final stage in all six seasons and have made it to the final in season 5, in 2015-16. Unfortunately, they had lost to Sydney Thunder on that occasion.
