Despite all the recent reforms in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since the implementation of Lodha-panel recommendations, the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) continues to be an outcast. Imposing a ban on RCA, the BCCI in its ruling in 2013 said that until the time former IPL chairman Lalit Modi is associated with state cricket board, it shall not recognise the authority. After the recent election in the RCA, new president CP Joshi is trying all his best to get the BCCI to overturn the ban. One problem for them is that Modi is still the president of Nagaur District Cricket Association, which is an affiliate member of the RCA. Former Test umpire SR Ramchandra Rao passes away
A report in the IndianExpress quoted a BCCI official as saying, “Our notice, which we had sent to RCA in 2013, was clear that Modi can’t hold any position anywhere in the association or any of its districts. He (Modi) is still president of Nagaur. Until he is removed from Nagaur district, BCCI will not lift ban from RCA.”
After the ban on RCA, the BCCI formed an ad-hoc committee called Team Rajasthan to handle daily workings of the association.
Joshi, who won over Modi’s son Ruchir by 19-14, wrote a letter to BCCI about the same. “We have written a letter to BCCI seeking direction on how RCA’s ban can be lifted. If his (Modi) case is an issue, we will take this matter to our AGM and then the house will decide over it. Let us get the clarity from the BCCI and we will later decide what needs to be done,” Joshi stated in the report.
One of the main agendas on Joshi’s pre-election campaign was to revoke the ban imposed by BCCI on RCA.
