Franchises previously faced pressure of signing permanent players in order to withdraw/replace injured players. However, a report from CricBuxx reveals that BCCI implemented this rule to allow temporary replacements for short time periods. However, this rule is limited to wicketkeepers as of now.
This new rule only applies in case if all the wicketkeepers in a squad become unavailable, then the franchise is given the permit to take an unsold wicketkeeper from the IPL 2025 auction.
