BCCI announced OPPO Mobiles India Private Limited as the new Team India sponsor on Tuesday. The mobile manufacturer will begin its association with Indian cricket team from April 2017 for a period of 5 years. Star India has been sponsoring Team India since January 2014 and will end its association in March 2017. Star have opted out from the current bid due to ‘lack of clarity’ between ICC and BCCI’s individual stand that has hampered the game’s development in the recent times. The new logo of OPPO will reflect on the jersey of senior as well as junior men’s and women’s teams later this year, beginning with the Champions Trophy. Full cricket scorecard: India vs Australia, 2nd Test at Bengaluru

The BCCI press release said, “The mobile manufacturing giant OPPO’s association with BCCI will start from April 2017 for a period of five years.” The OPPO winning bid was INR 1,079 crores. They will sponsor INR 4.61 crores for bilateral series as for BCCI events the sponsorship will be for INR 1.51 crores. When Star India opted out of the bid, CEO Uday Shankar spoke to Times of India and said, “We have been very proud that our name is carried on the jersey of Team India. But given all the uncertainties, we have decided not to bid for it again. The commitments being asked for are too onerous without any clarity.” It is believed that Star’s bid was worth INR 19.2 million per match for bilateral series.

As for the ICC sponsored tournaments, the bid was worth INR 6.1 million, as reported on Hindustan Times.  The next deal that BCCI would have to sign is for the IPL broadcast that is currently held by Sony TV.
