BCCI’s hopes of staging a mini Indian Premier League (IPL) in may be postponed by a year. The BCCI have not made an announcement yet but all the concerned people have apparently been told about it. The mini IPL might now be held a year later preferably in the USA.  The mini IPL was scheduled to be held in September 2016 as players from most of the Test playing nations will be available during that time. IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla was informed by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri of this decision when the latter visited BCCI office on Friday afternoon, reports mumbaimirror.com. According to a report on CricBuzz, a senior BCCI official said, “The Mumbai Indians wanted to play a few games against another franchise. Their request has been turned down and instead a proposal to launch a mini IPL was floated. We’re now considering the possibility of playing a short duration [10-15 days] tournament in the UAE or the US, in which all the eight teams can take part.” READ: BCCI working committee to take final call on ‘Mini IPL’ on June 24

The other reason that could have led to the postponement of the proposed tournament is the fact that India’s home season will go underway in September with Duleep Trophy featuring all big stars this season because the tournament is set to be played under lights with pink balls. The BCCI may take a call on the itinerary of the mini IPL after that. The IPL 2016 finished on May 29, with David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinching their maiden title in the final against Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
