Ishant Sharma started his IPL campaign for Gujarat Titans on a disappointing note as he went wicketless in the three appearances so far conceeding 97 runs. Adding to the disappointment, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalized the former India pacer for violating IPL Code of Conduct on Monday.
Ishant Sharma was fined 25% of his match fees and was also handed one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match between Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
“Ishant admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” the IPL media release read.
According to article 2.2 of BCCI’s Code of Conduct for players and teams,“Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match.”
“Article 2.2 includes any action(s) outside the course of normal cricket actions, such as hitting or kicking the wickets and any action(s) which deliberately (i.e. intentionally), recklessly or negligently (in either case even if accidental) results in damage to the advertising boards, boundary fences, dressing room doors, mirrors, windows and other fixtures and fittings.” according to the rule
“For example, this offence may be committed, without limitation, when a Player swings his/her bat vigorously in frustration and causes damage to an advertising board,” reads the rule.
However, Gujarat Titans secured a convincing 7-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, thanks to Mohammed Siraj’s impressive bowling figures and skipper Shubman Gill’s unbeaten knock of 61.
