BCCI set to retain Team India’s assistant coaches

Ravis Shastri was appointed team Director during India's tour of England in 2014.

Ravi Shastri‘s continuation as Team India Director has ensured that his three assistant coaches—Bharath Arun, R Sridhar and Sanjay Bangar too will be a part of the support staff. The trio have been working under Shastri ever since he was drafted into the helm of things midway through the England tour in 2014. Arun and Sridhar were guven an assurance that their contracts will be renewed. But, the same was not communicated to Bangar, if his services will be required by the team after the Bangladsh tour. There were murmurs within the camp that Bangar will be replaced as there was no clear communication. Former players like Praveen Amre, Lalchand Rajput and WV Raman were considered for the role of batting coach, a position which Bangar has been handling for a year now.

Shastri has however stood firm with Bangar and wants to be be solely in charge of the team affairs. This is one such move that might probably keep the advisory committee from interfering in the team’s affairs. Three well-versed batting coaches might be offered coaching opportunities at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
