Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to bring in major changes in the fifth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) next year.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to bring in major changes in the fifth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) next year.
According to media reports, the IPL governing council wants to restore the “home and away round-robin system”, where every team plays the other which will lead to increase in number of matches compared to last season.
IPL 4 had featured only 74 matches compared to 94 in the earlier seasons which had disappointed many franchises and sponsors. It featured ten teams divided in two groups.
“The teams were not happy with the current format of dividing the teams into two groups.” a BCCI official was quoted in thatscricket.
The major change in format from next season is the outcome of the recent exclusion of Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) due to non-payment of dues. The consortium defaulted on a Rs 156-crore annual payment despite reminders by IPL authorities..
A BCCI official was quoted in thatscricket as saying that the next meeting which will be held on Friday in Hyderabad will discuss the termination of Kochi Tuskers, the number of teams and the format.
