Four options have been provided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Working Group in relation to the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports in Hindustan Times, the committee has suggested that the teams be auctioned off or change the management of the two banned teams — Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). “We have suggested four logical possibilities. The first option will be to auction off both the banned teams for two years. The second option could be to hand over the reins of the teams to credible entities or institutions for the next two years,” a member of the Working Group was quoted as saying by the newspaper. “Also, there is an option where the board can organise a T20 league in tier two cities and the top two teams from that league can fill up the two slots. However, this will be a time consuming process but even then it can be an option. The fourth option could be to pitch in two new teams altogether through auctions and these two teams can continue after CSK and RR rejoin the league once the ban term is over. The IPL anyway has the provision for 10 teams,” he said. IPL verdict: CSK challenges Lodha Panel’s decision at Madras High Court
The four options will be discussed in the IPL governing council meeting on August 27 in Kolkata. The next day, BCCI working committee will meet in Kolkata to make the final decision. IPL verdict: Working group meets with Anurag Thakur, stakeholders
The Working Group includes IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur, IPL governing council member Sourav Ganguly, BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry, and BCCI legal advisor Usha Nath Banerjee. They were given six weeks to study the Supreme Court appointed-Lodha Committee order.
