The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will postpone its Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was supposed to be held on September 27. In a chat with ESPNCricinfo, Anurag Thakur, the BCCI secretary said, the board had already filed a petition seeking clarification from the court about whether Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) president N Srinivasan‘s presence in AGM. So unless this issue is not cleared, BCCI is unable to arrange the AGM. “As per our legal opinion he [Srinivasan] could not attend the meeting. But he then forced himself to be in the meeting. And we did not want any contempt of court. That is why we have filed the petition on Friday and may be in a few days’ time we should get the order.” READ: BCCI files 238-page writ in Supreme Court to get clarity on issue

As per Societies Registration Act (BCCI is registered under this act) to hold an AGM, the organisation needs to issue 24-day prior notice. Thus, after getting the clarification from court, BCCI needs at least 24 days to hold the AGM. “Certain things are not in our hands. This has not happened for the first time. It has happened many times,” Thakur said while talking about this delay of holding the AGM.

Earlier Srinivasan’s presence at the BCCI working committee meeting on August 26 in Kolkata had caused confusion because earlier this year the Supreme Court said his attendance in any of BCCI’s meeting would be considered as contempt of court.  BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya adjourned the working committee meeting on those regards. Later The boardhad filed a 238-page writ petition in the Supreme Court in order to get clarity about whether its former president Srinivasan should be allowed to attend the Board meetings.
