New Zealand go to Tea on the back foot for the first time in this Test match at 134 for five, still needing a further 211 runs to win. Ben Stokes got rid of Kane Williamson and skipper Brendon McCullum of back-to-back deliveries to put England in firm control of this match. Corey Anderson has scored a sparkling half-century to keep New Zealand alive in the match. BJ Watling is giving him steady company at the other end. England went into lunch at 21 for 3, having lost openers Martin Guptill, Tom Latham and Ross Taylor cheaply. The Kiwis were dealt with further blows after Williamson fell for 27, unable to convert his start to a significant one. McCullum’s wicket off the very next delivery did not help his team’s cause. Anderson then negotiated the hat trick delivery and along with Watling has steadied the ship to a certain extent. Live Scorecard: England vs New Zealand, 1st Test, Day 5

Earlier in the day, Trent Boult’s five-wicket haul had helped New Zealand bowl England out for 478, thus needing 345 runs to win the first Test. Boult picked up all the four England wickets to fall in the first session. New Zealand will hope that they can play the day out and save the Test match.
