Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s gritty fifty guides UP past 100 in Ranji tie
Opener Bhuvneshwar Kumar cracked an unbeaten half-century to help Uttar Pradesh reach 166 for two in reply to Mumbai's first innings total of 414 in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match on Thursday.

Opener Bhuvneshwar Kumar cracked an unbeaten half-century to help Uttar Pradesh reach 166 for two in reply to Mumbai’s first innings total of 414 in their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match on Thursday.
Kumar, with a score of 61 off 145 balls, was at the crease at the draw of stumps and giving him company was Parvinder Singh at 39 off 53 balls.
Kumar hit seven fours in his innings, while Parvinder blasted three boundaries and two sixes in his whirlwind innings at the Dr Akhilesh Das Stadium.
Resuming at 414-9, Mumbai’s Murtuza Hussain lasted just four balls before becoming a victim of Piyush Chawla in the fifth delivery.
Tanmay Srivastava (23) and Kumar opened the innings for Uttar Pradesh and forged a 54-run parnership before the former was trapped in front of wicket by Romesh Pawar.
Mohammad Kaif played a strokeful cameo of 27 runs in 46 balls with four boundaries and one six but he was dismissed by Iqbal Abdulla after being adjudged lbw.
Parvinder and Kumar then shared an unbroken 68-run partnership for the third wicket to keep the match on an even-knell.
For Mumbai, Powar and Abdulla took one wicket each. (PTI)
